Access Statement for Grendon Guest House

Introduction

Grendon Guest House is committed to ensure an appropriate accommodation service for prospective guests with disabilities. Due to the layout of Grendon we lack facilities for guests with severe mobility limitations. We welcome any enquiries from guests with disabilities so we can discuss their needs and all reasonable attempts will be made to meet these. All sleeping accommodation is above the ground floor, via an easy tread staircase.
We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home based 5 bedroom bed and breakfast. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.
Pre-Arrival

•There is a bus stop within 5 minutes coming from the town centre every 2 hours.
•The main train station is 20 minutes away on foot.
•There are several local taxi services that has accessible taxis if required, we can make a booking for you.
•Brochures and menus can be provided in large print, unfortunately we do not have a Braille facility.
•We have a comprehensive website detailing many of our facilities.
•You can contact us via phone, text, or email.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

•On Arrival to the property there is one entrance and one exit.
•No marked parking bays but there is ample room for all cars
•The surface is level with limestone chippings
•We can assist guests with luggage

Main Entrance & Reception

•The front door has one step 17cm high.
•The front door is always locked, and guests use a coded system to enter independently or can alert us by pushing one of two buttons •
The door is 90cm wide.
•On entry into our home there is a hallway 8 by 6 metres
•There is seating provided in the hallway
•There is short pile fitted carpet in the hallway, wood block flooring with rug in guest lounge and wood block floor in breakfast room.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

•The covering on stairs and upstairs corridors is short pile carpet
•The breakfast room is on the ground floor.
•There are 14 stairs to the 3 first floor bedrooms.
•The stairs are 18cm high, 24cm deep, 95cm wide.

Public Areas - WC

•Bedrooms are en suite but no public WC available, although on request a ground floor WC can be made available.

Dining Room

•Breakfast is served in the breakfast room on the ground floor. There are no steps
•Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
•Tables have underspace of 67cm high by 135cm wide and height of 73cm (legs on each corner). There are chairs with arms and without which can be moved to accommodate.
•Menus can be provided in large print.

Guest Lounge

•Door width 84cm, balcony door 76cm, access 14 cm threshold step to tiled area with balustrade
• Furnished with low settes and arm chairs, dining table and upright upholstered chairs.

Laundry

•Available on request.

Bedrooms

•There are 5 bedrooms, 3 on the first floor and 2 on the 2nd floor.

Bedroom 1

•There are 14 stairs up.
•Door width (main and bathroom) are 78cm wide
•Double bedded room with king size bed
•There is approximately 130cm between the wall and each side of the bed
•There is 260 cms free space at the end of the bed to the window
•Two armchairs and one upright chair (no arms) are provided in the room, occasional tables in a nest.
Dressing table unit built into wall area, free standing wardrobe
•There is a TV with teletext and DVD player
•Fitted short pile carpet on the bedroom floor
•There is an ensuite shower room with vinyl flooring on a flat surface.

Bedroom 2

•The shower cubicle has a step/edge of 14cm high.

•Twin or double bedded room, bed can be zip linked to provide a 6 ft wide x 6ft 6'' long sleeping platform, bed is 50cms high.
•There is approximately 80cm between the wall and each side of the bed (the bed does move so 200cm total space is available to one side)
•There is 2.6 metres free space at the end of the bed to the window.
•There is a walk in wardrobe, 2.4 x 2.4 metres with shelving, hanging rail and drawer chest within.
•Two armchairs and one upright chair (no arms) are provided in the room, dressing table and occasional tables.
•There is a TV with teletext and DVD player

Grounds and Gardens

• A balcony leads off our guest lounge where a table and chairs is placed in warmer months. A spiral staircase leads down to rear garden
•We have a one acre garden (flower border and lawn) for residents which is available to sit in (bench available) or to let dogs out if required, can be accessed around the side of our building. •Our lane is rural and good for exercising a dog.

Additional Information

•Assistance dogs are enthusiastically welcomed.
•All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and cordless kettles.
•All rooms have raised wall sockets as well as at skirting level.
•Mobile phone reception is generally good
•We are able to use the front and back doors in the need of evacuation. If you require more assistance for evacuating please notify us on arrival and we will ensure you are evacuated safely e.g. hearing impairment.
•We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment, eg bikes, and have a garage for storing
•We are a no smoking building and garden
•We supply a small drinks fridge on the first landing which can be used for medication/food and we can put larger items in our main fridge on request (not available 24hours).
